Whether you are staying near Melrose, Kelso or elsewhere in the Borders, this guide will help you plan your journey and explore the area with ease.

Tip: If you're visiting multiple locations during your stay, a car is the easiest option — but you’ll also find good rail links via Tweedbank and Berwick-upon-Tweed, plus local bus routes for the main towns.

Getting here

Most guests arrive by car. The Borders are well connected via the A68, A7, A1 and A6091 depending on your route.

From Edinburgh: typically 1–1.5 hours to most Borders towns.
From Newcastle: typically 1–1.5 hours depending on your destination.
From Glasgow: allow around 2–2.5 hours.

If you’re arriving by train, these stations are the most useful:

Tweedbank (Borders Railway) – for Melrose, Galashiels, Tweed Valley.
Berwick-upon-Tweed (ECML) – good for the eastern Borders / coastal access.
Edinburgh Waverley – for onward travel to Tweedbank or car hire.

Please do not use domestic extension leads unless specifically permitted for that property.
